Regular Light Bar Cleaning To Prevent Calcium Buildup

LED light bars are found on everything from police cars to ambulances and construction vehicles. The advantages of LED police light usage are numerous and increasingly proven. Whether you’re opting to take the LED plunge out of a concern for the environment or simply are impressed with their lifespan and effectiveness, knowing how to deal with the calcium building that comes along with the LED emergency vehicle lights is vital. Calcium buildup is the result of continuous use and is nearly impossible to prevent. After a period of time, calcium can build up on both the inside and outside of your police light bar. Learn how to clean your emergency vehicle lights and keep everything in tip top shape all year.

Cleaning Your LED Light Bar

What You Will Need:
  1. Mild soap
  2. Phillips head screwdriver
  3. Scrubbing pad
  4. Towel

What To Do:
  1. Start by removing the screws from the light bar harness with your Phillips head screw driver. All screws should be completely removed from the light bar harness before proceeding with the following of the steps.
  2. To get inside the light bar, lift the light bar cover from the harness platform. Remove the light bar cover and put aside.
  3. Rinse the light bar with water. Using a mild soap and a scrubbing pad, clean the inside and outside of the light bar. Apply the soap mixture to all surfaces of the light bar. Use a circular motion when scrubbing the surfaces, which will best break up any calcium deposits.
  4. Once all surfaces have been cleaned with the soap, rinse the entire bar with warm water until all soap has been removed.
  5. Use a hand towel to wipe all surfaces dry. Be sure everything is completely dry before continuing on to the next step.
  6. Return the light bar to the harness on the top of your vehicle. Screw the screws back into the harness by turning clockwise to tighten. Double check to make sure all screws are secure and the light bar is firmly in place.

Replacing LED Lights: How To Know When It’s Time

One of the biggest advantages to LED light bars is the fact that the average lifespan is nearly twice as long as traditional light bulbs. LED lights have taken the nation by storm thanks to their eco-friendliness and their ability to outlast anything else currently on the market. That said, however, even these long lasting lights need to be replaced every few years (depending on the intensity and consistency of usage). How do you know it’s time to replace your police lights or LED light bars? There are a few clear signs that your emergency vehicle lighting are on their last legs. Read on to learn more before you end up in a crisis without working emergency vehicle lights.

It’s Time To Replace Your LED Lights When…
  1. Switch Glitches Occur: One of the surest signs that the time has come for new lights is when you flip the switch and the light flickers on and off before turning on completely. This is an indication that your lights are on their last legs. Time to restock!
  2. Single Bulb Outages Occur: When you’re using a LED light bar with multiple bulbs, it can be tempting to ignore a single bulb outage. After all, you have four or five other bulbs that work just fine, right? No! A single bulb outage is a sign that the rest will shortly burn out as well. Waiting for the rest to burn out is simply courting disaster.
  3. Weird Smells Or Hues Appear: Switching on your vehicle warning lights and being greeted with a strange smell or an off-color hue is a sign that something is amiss. Replace immediately.

If any of these signs appear, visit our site for the best deals in town. The best way to replace your LED light bars without breaking the bank is to opt for the package deals offered by Emergency City. Emergency City offers package deals for desk and dash lights, light bars, light heads and warning sticks. Each of these includes an entire set for a significantly reduced price. Large police departments, or boroughs looking to stock all their rescue departments at the same time, would be well advised to purchase all four package deals at once. This investment ensures that you will be able to avoid addressing the issue again in a year or two.

Preparing For The Fall and Winter Emergency Season

Summer has officially ended, and whether you love it or hate it, the upcoming seasons are fraught with unique hazards. Emergency vehicle lights need to be prepared to handle everything from incessant rain to dense fogs and whiteouts. Emergency responders are training for these situations even as you read this. Your emergency vehicles should be prepared just as thoroughly. Not sure what to outfit your vehicles with this season? Here’s a brief rundown.

  • The LED light bar is the basic requirement for all emergency vehicles, regardless of the season. Full sized or mini, LED light bars are essential for everyone from first responders to construction vehicles. Light bars are the quintessential symbol of emergency services. Make sure yours are operating properly, are fully powered, and connected to switch panels.

Deck and Dash Lights:
  • Deck and dash police lights are perfect for getting your vehicle noticed from every angle. Their small size and unique shape give them the ability to fit in spaces that full sized vehicle warning lights can't. These small deck and dash lights can be positioned in small crevices, allowing your vehicle to be seen through the elements.

Warning Light Sticks:

  • Light sticks come in a number of shapes and sizes and can be used for multiple purposes. Small enough to be used with dirt bikes and motorcycles, these lights have up to ten flash patterns and are 100% portable. In the fall and winter seasons, the ability to be easily transferred from vehicles to off-road bikes and motorbikes is crucial!

Police Sirens and Speakers:
  • The best police lights in the world won’t get you very far if civilians cannot hear your instructions. Make sure your emergency vehicle is outfitted with quality sirens and speakers. In inclement weather, these can be vital for getting your directions across while your vehicle makes its way to the scene.

Flashers:
  • Flashers allow for alternating and simultaneous flashing lightheads. The multiple light flash patterns dramatically increase visibility. The more patterns emergency responders utilize, the more likely civilians are to see you coming from a distance and act accordingly.

Police light accessories are essential year-round, but each serves an especially important purpose during the bad-weather months. Make sure your vehicles are ready and visit our site to fill in any gaps in your equipment.

LED Light Bars: Styles and Functions

The advantages of LED light bars over older versions of police lights are substantial. LED lights are more energy efficient, with a longer battery life and a lesser impact on the environment. Consumers also find these lights to be brighter and more focused. Plus, the casings for LED light bars are more sophisticated than older, incandescent lights and offer better protection from harsh weather conditions, scratches and ultraviolet rays. Lastly, most LED light bars come with multiple flash patterns and colors and can work for both indoor and outdoor purposes.

All LED light bar styles work with the same efficiency, but each offer a different set of functions. Let’s look at the varieties of LED police lights.

Full Size Light Bars:

  • For emergency vehicles, full sized light bars are the most effective way to make your presence known. Police cruisers, fire engines, escort vehicles and EMT’s rely on the fact that others on the road can see them coming and make room for them. Full sized police light bars are reliable, unmistakable, and effective. Whacker Technologies and Police Lightz both carry extensive lines of full sized light bars and the accessories you need to accompany them.

Mini Light Bars:

  • Mini light bars hold the same quality LED lights as their full sized counterparts. The difference is that these emergency vehicle lights are more subtle--perfect for undercover emergency workers. Their straightforward, compact design makes them easy to attach and remove from your vehicle in a hurry. Emergency City carries multiple lines of mini light bars that range from the simplest mini lights to complex, yet small, designs.

Interior Light Bars:

  • Used primarily in undercover and unmarked police vehicles, interior lights are housed inside the car (usually on the dashboard) and can be activated with a simple flip of a switch. These allow to you observe a scene without detection before springing into action at a moment’s notice. Police Lightz offers a number of powerful interior lights for undercover agents.

Tow Truck Light Bars:

  • Similar to police light bars, these are designed to sit atop a tow truck, and offer many of the same capabilities. Emergency City offers two versions of Police Lightz light bars for towing vehicles.

LED light bars are the most energy efficient, cost effective and powerful way to make your presence known. Visit our site today to browse our entire selection and be sure to check out our custom light bars for a more unique take on LED lights.
